In September 2019, after the Sudanese revolution and the palpable effect it had on forms of expression, Sudan Moves was initiated with the aim to discuss the role of art during crisis, and to bring artists and creatives together in both Sudan and Germany. SDNMVS is a platform for exchange, networking, communication and coproduction. Due to the massive socio-political shifts in both countries as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, the lack of mobility, border closures and the inaccessibility of cultural spaces – Sudan Moves has migrated to the digital sphere. Sudanese and German artists have teamed up during an online residency in September and October 2020 to create different visual and auditory artworks that tackle current struggles and discourses to be presented in a virtual exhibition. A podcast in Arabic and German was produced to give an insight on Sudan’s capital city Khartoum through the eyes of specialists, urbanists, artists, and other inhabitants of the city. Sudan Moves is a project coordinated and funded by the Goethe-Institut Sudan in collaboration with the Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz/Weißensee Academy of Arts, Art Kanoon Publishing House, ElMastaba TV, The Urban Episode and Rift Digital Lab.
